Purpose. To assess the quality of life of patients who underwent prosthetic hernioplasty using polypropylene mesh and modified xenopericardium.
Material and methods. Depending on the chosen method of hernioplasty, the patients were divided into two groups. In the main group, plastic surgery using xenopericardium was performed according to the developed technique. In the second group, a polypropylene mesh was used as a prosthesis. The quality of life of patients was studied seven years after the operation.
Results. It was found that seven years after the operation among the patients operated on with the use of xenopericardium, there is significantly less discomfort and foreign body sensations at the site of the operation.
Analysis of the results of patients' assessment of their quality of life using a visual analogue scale showed that seven years after xenopericardial implantation, the quality of life was 11.4% higher than in patients operated on with the use of a polypropylene mesh.
Conclusion. The study confirmed that the use of the developed method for hernioplasty of median ventral hernias with xenopericardium significantly reduces the incidence of pain and foreign body sensation in patients at the site of surgery, thereby improving their physical and emotional well-being.
